Wrapping Up Me Made May 2026

May has been and gone, and another Me Made May is finished.

This was the tenth year I’ve done this wardrobe challenge.

My pledge was:

  1. Wear me-mades every day in May, with at least one item zero waste.
  2. Try and wear things in new ways.
  3. Try and incorporate the samples from Sewing Without Scraps into my wardrobe.

I made a big effort to take a photo every day – this isn’t necessary as MMM isn’t a photography challenge, but it’s very helpful to review the month and see themes. I also made an effort to brush my hair and wear make up most days.

Some reflections:

Coats featured heavily this year, as winter set in early. Handily, I had coat samples from Sewing Without Scraps to enjoy wearing.

Skirts were worn on only three days. I hardly ever wear skirts now, much as I love them.

Only had two “pajama days”.

Tried to layer summery things for the cooler weather, but eventually it got too cold.

I took the opportunity to finish off some things. The brown knitted vest got finished and a moth hole mended. A few miscellaneous sewing jobs got completed – I sometimes tack things in place then wear the garment and forget they haven’t been properly finished.

A lot of wool – wool featured on all but four days (two of those were the pajama days).

Colour-wise, a bit of a mixture but mustard and red stand out, along with browns and greys.

Here’s the month in photos:

Cheers!

We had a national sewing/knitting meetup a few weeks ago here in France and we tried out fabrics against our skin to see how we looked like in different colors. Even though the game is much more difficult with pictures, it immediately reminded me of it when going through your MMM. Red suits you really well, the last picture is especially nice (outfit- and person-wise 🙂 I can’t recognise the red sweater but it looks really nice, as well as the second-chance jeans pinafore. Was it worth saving it or is it here because you still can’t see yourself wearing it “for real” out of MMM?
And not talking about sewing at all, the color of the sky behind you in the sunny days is absolutely stunning!

What a fun activity to do in a group. It’s interesting to see what colours you think suit you compared to what others think. I agree, red “does it for me”, however, I get the most compliments when I wear dusty pink (more thoughts here – scroll to the end). I do wear the second-chance pinafore a lot, especially in winter over trousers, and far more than before it had a makeover. The red top is the most Lego looking fabric I’ve ever seen, made from offcuts Mum gave me ages ago (here – again, scroll to the end).
Yes, the sky really is that colour!

      Thank you!

I always enjoy your MMM posts. A cheer goes up when the multi coloured blanket coat or ‘the scarf that goes with everything’ appear, and also when Jedi tendencies are evident!
I feel I have a lot of coats (I enjoy making them so much) but you do pretty well for diverse warm outerwear for an Aussie. This means I can justify a future ‘without scraps’ coat I think…
    You’re such a (passive) enabler.

Thanks Wendy. I really like making coats too, and am happy to have opportunities to wear them. It does get cold here, for Australia 🙂

I find it inspiring how pulled-together but different each days outfit looks. They all look interesting and nice. And yet you are wearing normal person clothes. I think I should try something along the lines of your personal challenge as I tend to get into ruts of the same “ uniform” day after day.

Thanks Jeannie. I too fall into ruts of the same clothes everyday (for most of the year, actually), and MMM is like a kick up the pants to think about wearing other things.

I have to ask about the blue shirt and mended (?) jeans in the top left photo. I like the layout of the shirt’s fabric (zero/low waste?) and I first thought the jeans were spiral cut but now I’m thinking it’s an attractive knee patch!
I also love your use of color! I’ve gotten too much gray in my wardrobe so I needed this inspiration.

Correct for both! The shirt is Sandie, a low/zero waste pattern. I’ve worn the samples a lot, and find it works best as a summer shirt as the collar is open. The jeans are an early attempt at zero waste jeans, and yes those are knee patches – I made them when I had small children and spent a lot of time crawling around on the floor.
I do love wearing colour, especially on cold grey days.
