Laying Plans for Me Made May 2025

It’s nearly May and I’m giving Me Made May a whirl again. This will be the ninth year I’ve done this challenge.

Me Made May is a personal wardrobe challenge with the goal of wearing your handmade items more often or differently.

I have to say, it’s not an easy challenge if wearing me-mades every day is what you normally do. It’s also hard not to end up with a pile of clothes on that chair in the bedroom which are too clean for the laundry yet too dirty for the wardrobe.

Currently, I change my (outer) clothes weekly, partly because long covid requires a lot of lying around and clothes don’t get particularly dirty, and partly because I wish to do less laundry. While I enjoy “clean clothes day”, it equally suits me not having to think about what to wear on the days in between. Long gone are the days of wearing a different, clean, ironed outfit every day to my fashion job in the city!

With this in mind, I’ve given a lot of thought to how MMM might look this year.

I, Liz Haywood, pledge to…

1. Choose one item to wear for the whole week, styled with different things, aiming for comfort, fun and variety.

2. Make a list of sewing UFOs (which seem to have built up again) and tackle at least three to be incorporated in MMM outfits.

Thank you Zoe Edwards for hosting this fabulous annual challenge!

Cheers!

Since I wear about only my own makes (with the exception of bras and knitted sweaters) I totally relate with this “not dirty/not clean heap” ! But I have one thing that is different every day : I use thin leggins as footless hose. I am wearing what was an UFO since yesterday…Sadly, a bit tight since I put on weight. And I am afraid another UFO I am working on will be , too.

Ah, so it’s not just me 🙂 I’ve never found an answer to the not dirty/not clean heap, but eventually things make their way to the wash. Just got to play the long game with it.
