Finishing Birgitta Helmersson’s Panel Dress

The Panel Dress from Sewing Without Scraps is finished, and what an enjoyable make it was.
I began sewing this dress last week, had done all the fiddly bits, and just had the main sections (sleeve, bodice, skirt) to put together and hem.

The skirt is much fuller than the original (3m instead of 2.2m), and a bit shorter.
This dress has a very neat finish for the neckline.

My teen was unavailable to model it for you, so I stood outside in the brisk morning breeze for a photo. I did leave my trousers and rubber boots on though!

Collarless, loose dresses have never particularly suited me, but they look great on my teen. This is a really comfortable dress though, and on a hot day would be wonderfully floaty to wear.
After adding a large patch pocket on the skirt (with a serendipitously placed embroidery),

the only scraps were from straightening the cut edges:

So happy to use all of this beautiful fabric.
Teen is very much looking forward to wearing this tonight.
Cheers!

Gorgeous, as expected last week, well done!
Thank you, it got the big tick of approval from teen 🙂
Wow, really looks beautiful. And strangely I find this amount of fullness looks just right although I thought that the example in the book was too full and wide to suit my taste.
Thanks Jeannie – I was surprised at how the fullness looked too, and suspect my fabric is thinner than the one used in the book.
Absolutely stunning, particularly in that fabric! I hope your daughter loves wearing it. But I do think the style and colour look great on you as well, for the record … you should make one for yourself!
Thanks Linda, she does love wearing it and it’s been a big hit.
