Saturday was World Wide Knit in Public Day, the largest knitter-run event in the world.
The day was celebrated with a public knitting event in our country town, hosted by Knit-Spin-Weave, our local yarn shop. The atmosphere was friendly, relaxed and FUN!
Some people brought spinning wheels and looms as well.
Some preferred crochet.
My two girls (aged 7 and 9) came with me. I thought they’d be bored but they walked around and looked at what people were doing. We watched Bob weave a scarf.
The girls said hello to a lady they knew, who showed them how to use a weaving loom (some looms from Knit-Spin-Weave were set up for anyone to try).
Conveniently, the event was held at an outdoors cafe, so no-one had to go far for a coffee or lunch. Even more conveniently, the knitting shop is next to the cafe!
An unexpected but inspiring part of the event was seeing the beautiful knitwear most people wore…the colours! the cables! the patterns!
Confession: I spent too much time chatting and didn’t actually do any knitting. Maybe next year?
Cheers!
What a fun day. I managed to knit a few rows. Good to catch up again.
That’s a few more than me! Lovely to see you.
