The book has launched

The book has launched

Last night was the official book launch of The Dressmaker’s Companion; I’ve held off this week’s blog post so I can tell you about it.

Seventy of us packed into the Barbara J Long room at Clare’s town hall.  It was a cold, wet, wild night outside but indoors it was cosy with wine, cheese and hot drinks.  If you’ve been following the saga of the blue dress, here and here, sorry I didn’t wear it (that neckline still needs work).  It was a lovely evening, lots of fun.  Many thanks to Clare library for hosting the event.

My husband sold books for me.  Just for giggles he brought along his 1950’s cash register.  Sometimes we use it at home when we play Monopoly, for the banker.

I had a power point presentation as I talked, with some photos I dug out of the shed.  Here are some of the highlights:

The book has launched graduation parade story

Early 1990’s: these are my fashion student graduation parade garments from the parade catalogue, thoughtfully coloured in for you using my children’s textas.  I still have the garments but no photos of them.

The book has launched Workskill circa 1994

Flying the flag for Australia at the Workskill (now Worldskill) Olympics, category: Garment Construction.  I’m about 20 here.

The book has launched Liz Haywood circa 1997

One of the very few photos taken of me at work. I’m working as a clothing cutter in a school uniform factory, late 1990’s.

Cheers!

    Hi Liz,

Congratulations on your new book! It looked like you enjoyed presenting your work at the library. It was a pity that I could not attend your event but I am very happy that one of your dreams has finally come true!

    Best of luck,
    Chiggy
