Welcome

Liz Haywood pictured with sewing machine

Hello and welcome to my first ever blog post.  I hope to share, inform and entertain on all things dressmaker-y, knitting and fashion.

About me:  I trained as a clothing patternmaker and worked in the fashion industry for twenty years, mainly ladies wear.  I was so fortunate to work at many interesting places with talented, inspiring people.  Now I live in the country with my young family, re-discovering sewing for pleasure.

I was just talking about you today (to a friend who knits.) This is an exciting thing! I don’t know a lot about blogs….. Is there a way I will know when you put up a new thing?

Hi Liz! I’m looking forward to plenty of sewing advice and inspiration. Perhaps you could do a post about sewing a zip neatly into a skirt. It’s something I have never mastered. The blog is looking good. Love, S.

      Hi Sarah,
      Thanks for your kind comments.
Ahh, zips…..don’t we all long for a perfect zip every time! I’ll give it some thought.
      Cheers, Liz

The skirt turned out excellent – love the dip and drape of it and also the pocket was a real stroke of genius. Looks great with the long boots.

      Thank, Lilian,
Yes, it’s a clever pattern and I’m looking forward to wearing it.
